Jonathan Livingston Seagull Project --

Part I. --  Reflection...Write a journal entry as you finish reading each of the three parts of the novel.  Each of your journal entries must:
  • Be written in 1st person POV.
  • Include your feelings and reactions as you complete the section.
  • Questions that you have/had as you read.
  • Predictions for what is to come for Jonathan.
  •  Be about 250 words.
Part II.  --  Creative...Choose one of the options below.
  • The novel has been turned into a movie and the producers have contacted you to creat the soundtrack.  Create a playlist of 6 songs (one for each of the 3 parts).  For each selection, provide the song title, artists, song (if possible), and a brief explanation of your choice of song.
  • Create a collage to represent the themes and major ideas presented in EACH of the three parts.  There should be a definite distinction showing each of the three parts.
Part III.  --  Analysis -- Complete the following writing assignment for the novel.

One of the overall themes of this book is the idea of "the meaning of life". It is clear to any reader that Jonathan's idea of the meaning of live and those of the other gulls is very different.  In an analysis essay explore the following topics:  What is the meaning of life as defined by the Gulls?
What is the meaning of life as defined by Jonathan?  Does the idea of the meaning of life change throughout the story? How? If not, why not?  How do Jonathan's ideas compare to your own?
